Rock Can Get You Stoned?

When I was in high school, Styx had a song called 'Heavy Metal Poisoning', from the same album that had the hit 'Mister Roboto'. It was a mockery of those religious groups that will try to convince you that modern music is evil. Anyway, when I got to college, I attended a Maranatha show about the evils of rock and roll. After all those years of waiting I would finally hear from the real-life version of Dr Righteous!

One of the evil tricks employed by deviants like Queen was backmasking. You see, 'Another one bites the dust' sounds a bit like 'Start to smoke marijuana' when played backwards. A perfectly wholesome song about gang violence was nefariously corrupted by a subliminal message about getting stoned. Lord help us!

I was visited on several occasions by Maranatha missionaries, but they failed to convert me (Already being Southern Baptist, it's not like it would have been a big difference). Why? They have their tricks just like Queen. Have you ever noticed that the word 'Maranatha' has the same first 2 sylables and the same rythm as the word 'Marijuana'?

p.s. Maybe it was really because my church let me listen to music and was *gasp* even known to play ordinary non-christian rock and roll in thier game-room/gym complex ;-)
